Mentoring in a Flash or MIF for short, offers insights on mentoring that we would like to share with you and encourage you to share with others. 
 
Why mentor?  Research suggests that mentoring can have the following positive effects on the lives of young people:
  • Reductions in school absences
  • Improved attitudes and behavior in school
  • Less likelihood of committing crimes

Beginning January 31, 2012 Jamie Foxx's movie Thunder Soul, will be available on DVD.  The story depicts the dedication of a high school band teacher and the thirty year reunion of his students.

Great leaders can make a real difference in one's life, offering the right example and guidance.  Here are some leaders that DCBF admires:
 
 
Born William Henry Cosby, Jr., Bill Cosby is a celebrated comedian, actor, TV producer, and educator. His credits include the television shows I Spy, Fat Albert, The Cosby Show, A Different World, Kids Say the Darnest Things, and many movies. Cosby is also the author of eleven books. Cosby along with his wife Camille have donated millions of dollars to charity, notably to education causes. While Cosby has received a number of honorary doctorate degrees, he earned his doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts in 1976. Today he continues to lecture on social activism and perform comedic routines.
 
 U.S. Surgeon General Regina M. Benjamin, MD, MBA is the 18th Surgeon General of the United States Public Health Service. As America’s Doctor, she provides the public with the best scientific information available on how to improve their health and the health of the nation. Dr. Benjamin also oversees the operational command of 6,500 uniformed health officers who serve in locations around the world to promote, protect, and advance the health of the American People.
 
 
Arianna Huffington is a Greek-American author and syndicated columnist. She is best known as co-founder of the news website The Huffington Post. In 2003, she ran as an independent candidate for Governor in the California recall election. In February 2011, AOL announced it would acquire The Huffington Post for $315 million dollar and make Huffington president and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post Media Group.
