About Us

The Darin C. Banks Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was formed in honor of Darin Catrell Banks, a wonderful husband, seasoned procurement professional, mentor and philanthropist. Darin passed away in 2009. During Darin's life, he worked tirelessly to achieve his educational and professional goals and to help others achieve theirs.

A graduate of Cass Technical High School in Detroit Michigan, Darin earned academic scholarships to attend Michigan State University. Yet, he was well acquainted with the financial challenges paying for college can pose for students. In addition to support from his family, he also worked while attending class. Graduating from State with his bachelor's degree, he also earned his Master of Business Administration, MBA, from Wayne State University, forging a successful career in the automotive, health care and hospitality industries.

Along with his wife Michelle, Darin was dedicated to contributing his time and monetary resources to a number of charities aimed at improving youth literacy, funding college preparatory programs and college scholarships. In loving memory and to continue his legacy of service to others, Michelle established The Darin C. Banks Foundation (DCBF). Since its inception, DCBF has awarded over $35,000.00 in scholarships to students throughout the United States and mentored thousands of youths through its peer mentoring program, social networks, including streaming radio and 1x1 outreach.

DCBF offers students practical and sound advice on financial literacy, interviewing skills, resume preparation, college success tips, successful career management and entrepreneurship.

DCBF Scholars have matriculated to and graduated from Ivy League, Big Ten and distinguished private colleges and universities. They are emerging leaders working in the business, entertainment and social services industries. They volunteer in their hometowns and abroad, enriching their communities as global citizens.  DCBF believes in today's youth and tomorrow's leaders.
